    Since there are lots of questions about the proper holding of a guitar, leg positions, foot rests, etc. I thought the following might be of some interest. I attended a concert by Sergio & Odair Assad last night in San Francisco. As usual they were incredible! Since I find it really educational (for me at least) to closely watch the performer as well as listen to the music, I noticed a few things about the Assad Brothers:

    Sergio sits and holds the guitar in the more "traditional" posture--fairly straight back, relaxed, using a raised foot rest for his left leg. His right wrist is not held straight in line with his forearm, but is slightly bent to the side and down (toward the floor), in a slightly cocked position. His body remains relatively still while playing--he moves in rhythmic pieces, although not as much as his brother. He looks at the fingerboard occasionally, but plays a lot with eyes closed.

    Odair, on the other hand is completely different. He sits with both feet flat on the floor, although he lifts his right heel occasionally. He holds his guitar with the lower bout (where the bout curves around to the end of the guitar) perched on his right thigh close to his body and hugs it to his chest fairly high.
