Syed Kamall
Syed Kamall, né le à Islington en Londres, est un homme politiquebritannique appartenant au Parti conservateur.
Il est député européen de 2005 à 2019 et devient le chef de la délégation du Parti conservateur au Parlement européen en 2013. Il préside le groupe des Conservateurs et réformistes européens de 2014 à 2019. Il est créé pair à vie le 11 février 2021.
Biographie

[modifier | modifier le code]Syed Kamall est né et a grandi à Islington (Londres). Musulman[1], il est originaire du Guyana. C'est dans les années 1950 que son père quitte le Guyana pour s'installer à Londres[1].
Il fréquente la Latymer School avant de poursuivre ses études au sein de l'université de Liverpool où il obtient un Bachelor en ingénierie. Il décroche ensuite un master à la London School of Economics et un doctorat à la City University de Londres.
Carrière professionnelle
[modifier | modifier le code]Syed Kamall commence sa carrière professionnelle en 1989 en travaillant pendant deux ans comme analyste des systèmes financiers pour le département d'outre-mer de la banque NatWest. Syed Salah Kamall, Baron Kamall (born 15 February 1967) is a British politician and academic, who from September to October 2022 served in HM Government as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.[1][2] He was previously Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Innovation at the Department of Health and Social Care (2021–22).[3]
Professor of Politics and International Relations at St Mary's University, Twickenham, Lord Kamall is also the academic and research director at the Institute of Economic Affairs, a classical liberalthink tank based in London.
Kamall represented London as a Member of the European Parliament for the Conservative Party from 2005 to 2019, serving on the International Trade and Economic and Monetary Affairs Committees. From 2013 to 2014, Kamall served as Leader of the Conservatives in the European Parliament, then as Leader of the European Conservatives and Reformists, from June 2014 till 2019.
In December 2020, he was nominated by Prime Minister Boris Johnson as a Life Peer (cr. 28 Jan 2021).[4]
